Philadelphia city is coextensive with Philadelphia co., SE Pa., on the Delaware River c.100 mi (160 km) upstream at the inflow of the Schuylkill River. Philadelphia has been a leading commercial and cultural center since the 18th century and is the 5th largest city in the United States. It maintains a diversified industrial base, an important trading and manufacturing hub even before the Revolution. It manufactures furniture, scientific instruments, transportation equipments, electrical electronic products, apparel, textile, foods, plastic products, paper, metal and chemical. The metropolitan region's newer industries involve health-care and biotechnological organizations. Its printing and publishing industry is important and there are largest oil refineries. Philadelphia is also a banking center. Its 2003 estimated population is approximately 1,423,538.

Institutions and Landmarks: Philadelphia is a nucleus of American culture in colonial times, Philadelphia is still the seat of numerous philosophical, artistic, dramatic, musical, and scientific societies. Among these are the Fels Planetarium, Science Museum of Franklin Institute, the American Philosophical Society(1743), the Academy of Natural Sciences (1812), Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (1805). Musical activities flourished in the city with outstanding symphony orchestra plays in the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Fair Mount Park has Philadelphia Museum of Art, Zoological gardens and plenty of historic monuments and shrines.

REAL ESTATE: Due to a slight downward trend in prices, larger inventory and a longer time on market for listing, the Philadelphia market turned into a buyer's market currently. Buyers are becoming more selective and deliberate. Because of this sellers are started to price their homes accordingly. The city is considered as the birthplace of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, where the bequest of more than three centuries of political, economic, social, and cultural achievements abound. Here Americans maintained their liberty and claimed the standards of the American Dream.
